Un yo MUSICAL

¿Cuáles son tus hobbies?: Leer, escuchar música, hacer deporte…
En nuestra sociedad la música se ubica mayoritariamente en nuestros espacios de ocio. Escuchamos música para relajarnos, para activarnos, en el coche, en las fiestas… Algunas personas ponen música de fondo en sus sesiones de trabajo. Otras muestran una especial aficción que les lleva a asistir con regularidad a conciertos. Sólo una minoría aprende a tocar instrumentos como hobby o dedicándose a ello profesionalmente. No consideramos que la música desempeñe un papel crucial en nuestros procesos de resolución de problemas ni de toma de decisiones. El lenguaje, el pensamiento, la memoria… sí son indispensables. Pero la música nos resulta más parecida a un juguete que nos hace bailar, a un "masaje mental" que necesitamos de vez en cuando para sentirnos bien.
En el ámbito científico se reproduce esta situación de infravaloración. De hecho, no existen en la actualidad modelos explicativos sobre el origen y las funciones cognitivas de la música. Por ello resulta tan interesante el libro de Steven Mithen:
"Los neandertales cantaban rap: Los orígenes de la música y el lenguaje" (Crítica, 2007)
En el se desarrolla una interesante teoría sobre el papel de la música en el desarrollo de la especie humana que resalta nuestra naturaleza de "yoes musicales" . Esta naturaleza se ha respetado en el diseño del Yo Digital abriendo sugerentes posibilidades de explotarla al máximo.
Comencemos con una breve reseña del libro. Imaginémosnos a nuestros ancestros con los rudimentarios sistemas de pensamiento que les permitieron diseñar utensilios de piedra optimizando así la obtención de alimentos. Pero no nos los imaginemos sólos y en silencio. Mithen nos pide que nos recreemos en imagénes grupales y muy muy ruidosas. Los sistemas de comunicación previos al lenguaje se servían simultáneamente de códigos visuales (expresiones emocionales, gestos manuales y corporales) y de códigos auditivos: vocalizaciones y cualquier tipo de sonido (p.e. el sonido de una piedra contra otra, de los pies al pisar las hojas….). Este protolenguaje no servía para tranmitir información sobre el mundo sino para influir en el estado emocional del otro. Si un cazador divisaba un animal peligroso no podía comunicar a sus compañeros que venía un león muy grande con muy malas pulgas y que lo mejor era salir pitando. Lo único que podía hacer era transmitir su miedo, contagiar su estado emocional a través del terror que se podía leer en su cara, en sus movimientos y en sus gritos, generando así una reacción conjunta de huida. Si conseguían sobrevivir, es muy probable que lo celebraran en la noche, en torno al fuego, fundiéndose en un estado de euforia con vocalizaciones, sonidos y bailes rítmicos.
De todo este protolenguaje emocional las vocalizaciones experimentaron un mayor desarrollo tanto en capacidad combinatoria como en capacidad referencial. Se dice que el factor decisivo para llegar al Homo Sapiens fue la emergencia de un lenguaje gramatical y con capacidad para comentar, explicar e incluso inventar un mundo.
¿Desapareció la comunicación emocional cuando el cazador pudo producir una frase del tipo:"¡Cuidado!, vámonos de aquí porque acabo de ver a un león macho hambriento y es mejor que nos escondamos en la cueva del camino de las zarzas"?. Según Mithen no sólo no desapareció sino que la comunicación emocional, tal como la hemos descrito más arriba pero liberada de la demanda referencial, dió lugar a LA MÚSICA.
La música como el lenguaje de la emoción
El lenguaje también se llevó recursos para expresar la emoción: los rasgos suprasegmentales (entonación, acentuación…) y el acompañamiento facial y manual. Pero quedaron todos ellos muy superditados a la nueva función de portavoces del mundo externo. Por ello la música pudo crecer en torno al fascinante mundo interno y de ahí le vienen sus propiedades: la de cambiar el estado emocional de una persona, la de provocar un estado emocional compartido en un grupo de personas, la de transmitir experiencias inasibles desde la racionalidad…
Si la música proviene del mismo tronco evolutivo que el lenguaje también estará, como éste, imbricada en la génesis de nuestra especie, en su genoma, en sus entornos prototípicos de desarrollo. Aunque cuesta más verlo en una sociedad como la nuestra, es manifiesto el espacio que tiene la música en comunidades como, por ejemplo, la gitana de cuyos miembros se dice que "han mamado el flamenco" o que " aprendieron a bailar/cantar antes que a andar/hablar". Según el autor, es una pena haber perdido este protagonismo de la música. Para nosotros también resultan envidiables las habilidades musicales de los niños gitanos.
Música en el YO DIGITAL
El YO DIGITAL tendrá música y nos aportará las ventajas que para nuestra mente tiene su empleo en:
- La descripción consciente del estado emocional desde el que voy a arrancar mi actividad mental y así poder considerar si es o no es el idóneo
- La posibilidad de cambiar el estado emocional en el que estoy con una pieza musical incompatible
- La posibilidad de amplificar el estado emocional en el que estoy con una pieza musical compatible
- La posibilidad de alterar o de compartir el estado emocional de otros yoes digitales
- El establecimiento de un rastro musical en mi vida, en mi red social y en mis mapas emocionales
- La posibilidad de optimizar mi memoria siguiendo ese rastro….
Cuanto más musical, más emocional y MÁS VIVO.

-Esta entrada, y el libro de Mithen, sitúan lo musical y el lenguaje en el origen de la comunicación y regulación social. En consecuencia es una propuesta muy Vigotskiana. Se parte de la Teoría de la mente, de la empatía, de la necesidad de regulación emocional y social comunicativa para llegar a la capacidad simbólica: APASIONANTE.
-Me ha hecho pensar también en el origen de la 'narrativa' y los 'géneros' literarios. Esto ocurrió primero, así socialmente, ante las hogueras nocturnas y dentro de una tradición ORAL. Son varios los estudiosos que han situado ese origen. Además no había una distinción clara entre narrativa y poesía, ni entre relatos descriptivos y los más o menos mitológicos. Y la lírica, sí, solía acompañarse MUSICALmente. La distinción entre lo que es mitológico, y lo que no, es totalmente ilustrada (hija de la Ilustración); hoy criticada y superada, por ejemplo, en las explicaciones del 'Origen de la Filosofía'. Nos cuentan, hoy, que la filosofía nació muchas veces y en muchos lugares, como un género literario ORAL más. Éste buscaba una visión simbólica racional comprehensiva, pero esto ocurrió de forma simultánea y no posterior desligado de, lo que el positivismo llamó, lo mitológico. De forma singular, en la tradición griega, algunos poetas cantaron la igualdad entre SER y PENSAR-HABLAR (el Logos).
-Otra cuestión: quería hacer explícito una vez más que el H.Sapiens no desciende del H.Neandertal
Muy atinado el post. Si algo echo de menos en mi interacciones digitales es el sonido, y como no la musicalidad de la comunicación. La comunicación, no verbal se pierde en las actuales comunicaciones digitales aunque todo evolucionará. Aunque los Chat cada vez sean más verbales las mayorías de iteraciones con portales, blogs, etc… son meramente visuales. Eso de que vale una imagen mas que mil palabras no es cierto, por ejemplo si intento recordar anuncios de TV antiguos sólo recuerdo aquellos que tenían un estribillo musical, haced la prueba.
A Javier: El autor no cree que la simbolización provenga sólo de la comunicación emocional. También habla de un desarrollo en paralelo desde una inteligencia orientada a fines concretos a la fluidez cognitiva en la que se mezclan los dominios. Por ejemplo, cuando digo que un hombre es orgulloso como un león se han mezclado el dominio de la teoría de la mente con el dominio del mundo externo. También es necesario un desarrollo motor capaz de generar la variedad vocalizadora del lenguaje…
Otra cosa: no es una descendencia directa pero sí hay un tronco común: tanto el homo sapiens como el neanderthal son homínidos. El gran misterio es por qué los neandertales no llegaron al desarrollo lingüístico de los sapiens (o a la inversa, cómo llegaron los sapiens a algo tan complejo).
Dado que hoy se nos hablo en clase de este blog, decidi venir al telecentro del barrio donde estoy viviendo (ya que no dispongo de ordenador aqui en Madrid, yo soy de Asturias, estoy aqui para estudiar) para echarle un ojo y este articulo me llamo rapidamente la atencion. Lei la palabra musica y decidi leer este el primero, ademas porque los otros articulos no los entendia.
El invierno pasado tuve que ir al psicologo a terapia y muchas veces haciamos referencia a la musica (tambien a la pintura y la lectura) porque era una de mis aficiones. La psicologa me decia que leyera,pintara y escuchara musica siempre que tuviera oportunidad para sentirme agusto, relajarme, no pensar en lo que no debia o no sabia aun controlar.
Y ahora pensando en esto, ¿tiene algo que ver con la relacion musica-mente el que los discos de relajacion lleven musica? Porque tambien se podrian hacer sin ella ¿no?
Aun me queda mucho por aprender, espero entender esta relacion de la musica con nuestras emociones y poder seguir sintiendome feliz con determinadas canciones.
El efecto de la música es promover un estado de ánimo. Puede ser un estado de ánimo relajado pero también activador, triste o alegre… Depende del tipo de música. El psicólogo tenía como objetivo inducirte un estado de ánimo determinado y por eso te recomendó escuchar música. Debería haberte avisado que no cualquier tipo de música.
Otros usos terapéuticos de la música: para sustituir a la anestesia, para favorecer la comunicación con otras personas….
