En septiembre del año 2005 fue cuando Tim O'Reilly, bajo el término Web 2.0, describía el proceso de transformación que se estaba ap
reciando en la Web, acercándose cada vez más a un medio participativo en el que los usuarios colaboran para crear, evaluar y distribuir información. El auge del llamado user-generated content (contenidos generados por el usuario) es un fenómeno de evidente repercusión, en diciembre de 2006 la revista Time elige como persona del año a todos los usuarios de Internet. El año 2007 se considera el año de las redes sociales, donde apliaciones del tipo LinkedIn, MySpace o Facebook poseen grandes cantidades de datos personales sobre los usuarios.
Cuando recibí el número de noviembre-diciembre de la revista Internet Computing del IEEE titulada "Social Search" (búsqueda social) pensé que prometía, y cuando por fin pude sacar tiempo para leerla, me sentí como cuando te compras un álbum donde todas las canciones te gustan, porque todos los artículos tenían algo interesante.
En el artículo "Google, Profiling and Privacy" (Google, perfiles y privacidad) se habla de la compra de Doubleclick (la mayor compañía de publicidad online) por parte de Google (el mayor motor de búsquedas online) y de lo que puede suponer para la privacidad de los usuarios el hecho de que Google tenga, no sólo la información que ya tenía antes (términos de búsqueda, contenidos de los emails, etc.), sino también los flujos de clicks de los diferentes anuncios que aparecen en las páginas web. Esto me lleva al motivo por el que surgió el Yo Digital, que fue el tener una herramienta que permita al usuario controlar qué información suya hay en Internet, quién la tiene, cómo la usa y en qué medida se distribuye.
Y es que cada vez empieza a preocupar más a los usuarios, no sólo qué se hace con sus datos, sino también el spam publicitario que pueda haber en una red social. Así en el artículo "Fighting Spam on Social web Sites" (Combatiendo el spam en los sitios web sociales), se exponen algunas estrategias para intentar evitar el spam en este tipo de redes.
Otro artículo "The future of Social Networks on the Internet. The need for semantics" (El futuro de las redes sociales en Internet. La necesidad de la semántica) habla de cómo hoy en día tenemos nuestros blogs por un lado (en blogspot, por ejemplo), nuestros bookmarks (o marcadores) por otro (en del.icio.us, por ejemplo), nuestras fotos por otro (en Flickr, por ejemplo), nuestros vídeos por otro (en YouTube, por ejemplo), etc., y sobre la necesidad de relacionar de alguna forma toda esa información por medio de la semántica. Esto me lleva a otro de los objetivos del Yo Digital, que el usuario controle toda su información desde un único punto independientemente de dónde está alamacenada esa información, ya sea localmente o en la Red.

la llamada web 2.0 va por ese camino: organizar la consolidacion de internet de modo que el flujo de datos que se produzcan proporcionen información de quienes hacen uso de ellos. parece claro que la idea que subyace es que estos items queden estructurados y, de manera creciente, personalizados, identificados.
la horizontalidad y el anonimato están en horas bajas, y con ellas se irá buena parte de lo que hace de internet una herramienta cuyo potencial real es dificil de vislumbrar
resulta irónico que el articulo lo ilustre la portada de la revista Time cuyo personaje del año es ‘You’, el usuario
si lees por ahi, parece ser que ese personaje se elige por votacion a traves de internet. este año, hugo chavez encabezaba la lista, pero decidieron cerrar las votaciones y presentar esta original propuesta.
‘tú mandas en la red (2.0)’. pero tu votación puede ser y será arbtrariamente desestimada, ignorada por los mismos que proclaman que internet sólo te pertenece a ti y ellos solo te acompañan en el viaje.
