Últimas noticias del Yo Digital: viene sin Yo.
Algo está pasando. Claro que estas cosas son propicias a la exageración, pero cuando los voceros gritan “¡Extra! ¡Extra!” suele estar pasando algo: seguro que no lo que dicen los titulares, pero algo al fin y al cabo.
Los titulares: “Microsoft desvela su nueva visión de Internet”, anuncia el periódico gratuito 20 minutos. “Probablemente el lanzamiento más importante de Microsoft para este año”, “la punta de lanza de Microsoft en la red”-dice Error 500 | Tecnología + Internet + Conocimiento. “La nueva joya de Microsoft” –se aventura Evaluamos.com | Periodismo de Código Abierto. “La tierra prometida” de Microsoft –sugiere Scobleizer | Tech Geek Blogger. “Un hito en la estrategia de Microsoft”, según los analistas –apunta El Navegante del diario El Mundo. Y, por si fuera poco, parece que esto es “sólo la punta del iceberg” –si creemos a Ina Fried, de Beyond Binary.
Además, las noticias vienen de donde vienen las noticias: ni más ni menos que San Francisco, California, ni más ni menos que la Web 2.0 Expo. Por si fuera poco, obedecen a una lógica conocida, previsible. Hace apenas unos días que la prestigiosa consultora de tecnología Gartner pronosticara el colapso de Windows, “sobrecargado por una herencia de casi dos décadas de códigos y decisiones” e incapaz de adaptarse a los nuevos tiempos, y recomendara al gigante de Redmond, Washington, renunciar a su modelo de desarrollo en favor de las aplicaciones online. Pero Microsoft, por supuesto, se había ad
elantado (léase con tanto aire irónico como quiera cada uno: ¿en qué terreno no se ha adelantado Microsoft al signo de los tiempos, últimamente?). Su flamante jefe de software, Ray Ozzie, había marcado ya el rumbo de una decidida apuesta por la red y por la integración de tecnologías. Dixit:
“A lo largo de los últimos diez años, la era del PC ha dado paso a una era en donde la Web es el centro de nuestras experiencias; experiencias no sólo a través del navegador sino a través de numerosos dispositivos como los PC, los teléfonos, los reproductores digitales, las videoconsolas, los televisores, los dispositivos de TDT, los coches y más”.
Así que aquí lo tenemos: una plataforma de sincronización de carpetas online que nos permitirá agregar cuantos dispositivos deseemos –el ordenador de casa, el del trabajo, el móvil, la cámara digital…– e integrar los archivos de todos ellos con sólo pinchar y arrastrar, en el mejor estilo Windows. Luego, claro, podremos acceder a todos esos datos –que, cada vez más, sería a lo que parece tanto como decir a toda nuestra vida– desde cualquier lugar del mundo en el que pudiéramos hacernos con un punto de acceso a Internet. No es raro que en la presentación de Live Mesh –así se llama el invento– resonaran los ecos de Here, there, and everywhere, una balada que los Beatles grabaron en 1966, en Abbey Road, para su séptimo disco de estudio, Revolver.
Tendremos, pues, andando el tiempo, las representaciones digitalizadas de nuestras experiencias vitales sincronizadas y accesibles en todas partes: las fotos, las agendas, los 
informes del trabajo, las invitaciones del cumpleaños del niño, los historiales médicos, los datos de Hacienda, las cuentas del banco, los libros que estamos leyendo, la guía con la que estamos preparando el viaje que haremos en verano, las canciones, incluso la balada de “Revolver” en que Paul McCartney intentaba cantar a lo Marianne Faithfull… Bien. Ésa es –qué duda cabe– parte de la intuición original que animó la idea del Yo Digital. Si Microsoft ha decidido traerla, pronto estará aquí.
Sobre Live Mesh, por otra parte –como sobre Windows– podrían funcionar aplicaciones de todo tipo, tuvieran o no la firma de Microsoft. La estrategia –claro está– es “mantenerse como plataforma sobre la que otros construyen sus aplicaciones y servicios en la era de la web y los múltiples dispositivos por usuario”. Pero, pero, pero: por lo poco que se sabe –beta cerrada: sólo diez mil usuarios en pruebas– la cosa sólo funciona bajo Windows (tal vez se amplíe a Mac, pero Linux parece estar excluido sí o sí –por no hablar del acceso desde móviles, agendas PDA, o videoconsolas con sistema operativo propio) y, por el momento, sólo con formatos de archivo del entorno de Windows. Todo esto –desde luego– no era parte de las intuiciones primeras que hicieron germinar el proyecto Yo Digital: aquellas eran –eso creíamos al menos– intuiciones honestas, donde la tecnología estaba al servicio del usuario y no el usuario atado a la tecnología. Pero da igual, porque todo parece indicar que Microsoft no se saldrá con la suya en esto, y acabará claudicando.
Lo importante es que la sincronización de información que se nos propone sigue siendo eso: sincronización de información, fusión de carpetas –carpetas, no nos dejemos engañar por la metáfora: los viejos directorios. Pero nada se atisba en Live Mesh de la idea de integración psicológica de esa información, de la capacidad que hemos tratado de otorgar al Yo Digital de dar sentido a ese maremágnum de datos, de darle la forma misma de nuestra vida. Lo hemos reiterado una y otra vez, con múltiples ejemplos: querríamos encontrar de pronto aquella canción de los Beatles -¿o era de McCartney en solitario?– que escuchábamos tanto durante el viaje por Gales, un verano -¿qué año sería?– y que aún nos provoca una agradable melancolía, acaso de un particular matiz azulado… pero quién sabe en qué carpeta estará. Queremos, sí, poder buscarla en cualquier parte, aunque no estemos en casa. Pero también poder buscarla como si estuviéramos en casa: tal como buscamos las cosas en los laberintos de nuestra propia memoria.
Más: ni rastro parece haber en Live Mesh, tampoco, de las herramientas de gestión de identidades y redes sociales que forman parte del corazón del Yo Digital. Pero ya sabemos que quien busca tal o cual documento bien puede ser la esmerada profesional, la alocada noctámbula, la madre abnegada, la princesa élfica…, que casi todo cambia –sólo casi todo– según el caso, y que querríamos que la tecnología se hiciera eco de estos cambios en lugar de obligarnos a mostrar siempre ante ella una misma cara de nosotros mismos: el sufrido, resignado usuario.
Llega el Yo Digital, sí. Pero sin Yo.
Al leer el artículo me ha sorprendido que se presente como algo muy avanzado y novedoso cosas que ya llevan tiempo en el mercado.El poder enlazar dispositivos es algo que MAC ya había integrado hace unos años, además desde el Iphone entrando en google se puede enlazar correo e información a la vez que intercambias contactos con tu cuenta.Y tambiém es posible leer libros enteros de forma digital.
En cuanto a que gracias al Live Mesh podremos hacer una integracion psicológica de la información me parece algo sobre lo que merece la pena reflexionar.El otorgar esta capacidad al yodigital sin duda nos facilitara mucho la vida.Se sabe que la calidad de los recuerdos asi como su capacidad de recuperación depende de la forma en que los almacenemosy que se pueden dan interferencias en este proceso que dificulten una posterior recuperación por loque poder acceder a ellos a través de un sistema operativo facilitara mucho esta tarea.
La tecnología ha de avanzar para adaptarse a los tiempos y facilitar así la vida tan frenética que conlleva vivir en una sociedad marcada por el dinero y donde el tiempo es uno de los vienes más preciados.Los avances en tecnología han de ayudar a preservar este bien tan preciado.
Creo que se me ha quedado un punto importante en el tintero y es que ya que podemos almacenar nuestros recuerdos y pensamientos en un ordenador ¿no sería esta una forma de sobrevivir a la muerte y vivir eternamente(no como un ente físico sino nuestra esencia) en un ordenador?Espero que no me toméis como una loca de la ciencia ficción pero en cierto modo es una forma de que una parte de nosotros perdure en el tiempo ¿o no?
